Announcement

The International Conference on Instrumentation for Colliding Beam Physics (INSTR 2014) will be held in the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Novosibirsk, Russia from February 24 to March 1, 2014. Since 2012 this conference is in a series of instrumentation conferences held by rotation on Elba (PM or Pisa Meeting on Advanced Detectors), in Vienna (VCI or Vienna Conference on Instrumentation) and Novosibirsk.
The Conference will start at 9.00 on February 24 and will end at 16.00 on March 1.

Scientific Program

The aim of the Conference is to review the status and progress in instrumentation for experiments at colliding beams and related fields. The main topics include:

  • Colliders and detector integration
  • Tracking and vertex detectors
  • Micropattern gas detectors
  • Particle identification
  • Calorimetry
  • Instrumentation for Astroparticle and Neutrino physics
  • Magnet design and development
  • Electronics, Trigger and Data Acquisition

The program will consist of plenary and poster sessions. The current version of the program (almost final) can be found on the web page. Please check that your talk is in the program and let us know if its title should be corrected and whether the time of your talk matches your itinerary.

Call for Contributions

In order to apply for a presentation at one of the sessions, please submit a title and an abstract by e-mail to instr14@inp.nsk.su specifying whether it is an oral or a poster one.
The deadline for abstract submission is January 25, 2014.

Conference Venue and Transportation

The Conference will take place in the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics in the Akademgorodok (Academtown) of Novosibirsk, Russia. Akademgorodok is situated 30 km from the downtown of Novosibirsk and 40 kilometers from the International Novosibirsk airport Tolmachevo.

Novosibirsk is Russia's third-largest city, situated 3000 km to the East from Moscow in the very heart of Siberia and can be reached by regular flights from Moscow and St-Petersburg(the flight takes four hours). There are also direct flights from Frankfurt, Berlin, Beijing and Istanbul.

Transportation from/to Novosibirsk airport Tolmachevo and the hotel "Zolotaya Dolina" (Golden Valley) will be provided by the Budker Institute at any time of the day/night. Provide us with your arrival/departure dates/time and flight numbers not later than February, 16th. An Organizing Committee representatives will have the poster with a Conference title "INSTR". The Conference shuttle bus between hotel and Budker Institute will have this poster as well.
During the Conference please check your departure time in the list near the Organizing Committee.

Registration Fee

The conference fee is 400 Euro payable at registration (cash only accepted, participants can also pay the equivalent amount of 530 USD or 18000 rubles). The fee covers a welcome reception, a Conference kit, coffee breaks, lunches, social program, the Conference dinner, proceedings and transportation from/to the Novosibirsk airport/railway station. The fee for accompanying persons is 100 Euro.
The Registration will take place in the entrance hall of the BINP main building at Monday, February 24th from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The bus will be arranged at 8:45 a.m. from the hotel "Golden Valley" to BINP.

Participants of the Conference will be offered rooms in the hotel of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Science "Zolotaya dolina" ("Golden Valley") located close to the Budker Institute (15 minutes by foot)

Please note that as default, ordinary single rooms will be booked, at a cost of 2100 rubles (65 USD) or 2600 rubles (80 USD) per night. Participants can request a double room or a suite by E-mail to the Secretary of the Local Organizing Committee. More information about rooms and payment for the extra-time you can found by link. Please note that Organizing Committee will book the rooms for the Conference participants and the hotel will give you a discount.

Breakfast is not included in the room rate. If you wish to have breakfast please request it (250 Rubles per day) upon your check-in. It is served on the 8th floor. Please note about the floors numbering in Russia - the "European" ground floor in Russia is numbered as "Floor number 1".
You can pay for your stay in cash (Russian rubles only) or by Visa/MasterCard/Maestro cards during the Conference but not at the last moment. Travel cheques and Visa-Electron cards are not accepted. In addition to the prices above, guests have to add to their final bill 25% of one day price for the reservation. When you leave the hotel to the airport and pass the room key last time to the Administrator on the first floor of the hotel, please pay their attention that you finally leave the hotel to avoid the payment for the extra time.

Transfer between BINP and hotel

The shuttle bus will be provided between hotel “Zolotaya Dolina” and BINP:
8:45 a.m. from the hotel to BINP
9:30 p.m. after Welcome Party from BINP canteen to the hotel.

Social Program

The social program for participants and accompanying persons includes a welcome reception on Monday, February 24 and a Conference dinner (banquet) on Thursday, February 27. We will also offer a performance (ballet "Giselle") in the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on Wednesday, February 26.

During the Conference

Presentations and file formats

Portability. Your presentation is handled by a dedicated stand-alone computer running Windows, PowerPoint, Acrobat Reader and Quicktime. Please prepare your presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 (PPT) or Adobe Portable Document (PDF) format. Use only TrueType fonts and embed them (Click Embed True Type Fonts on the Save tab of the Tools->Options... screen before your final document Save). Ultimately your presentation has to be opened on a stand-alone Windows XP system optimized for the variety of attached hardware and not for the latest and most complete software suite.
Resolution. On the projector less than 1024x768 pixel and less than 24bit color depth (16M colors) are usable for your presentation. Please make sure that the details you want to present show up on YOUR screen set to 1024x768 (or even safer to 800x600) pixels.
External Materials. Your presentation has to be largely self-contained: you will have no Context Menu, no access to Explorer level, no Internet connection. If you want to show a movie it has to be addressed from inside the presentation.
Please copy your presentation files directly to the PC/notebooks in the Conference Hall during the coffee breaks or lunch.

Meals

Coffee breaks will be served nearby the main Conference Hall. Conference Welcome Party on Monday is included for all participants. Lunches will be served in the Canteen of the Budker Institute by showing special coupons provided during the registration. Please inform us about food limitations/preferences if any.
A list of restaurants and cafe in Akademgorodok you can find by link where the map of Akademgorodok and menu are placed. The copy of the mentioned map will be provided.

Currency

Please note that all service (including hotel, meals, etc.) in Russia can be paid in Russian rubles only. 24h-bancomats operating with the VISA/MasterCard cards allow cash withdrawals in Russian rubles. It would be convenient to use ATMs in the hotel "Zolotya Dolina", in the post office near the hotel and in the BINP. In banks of the Academgorodok there is also cash currency exchange from US dollars and Euros. Some Novosibirsk banks also have a Western Union service. Several banks are located at the post office in the nearest building to the hotel. The BINP nearest bank office is MDM bank (5-7 minute walk from BINP). Banks hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Many shops, restaurants and cafeteria accepted the Visa/MasterCard/Maestro cards as well.

Power

Please take into account that the standard electric voltage in mains in Russia is 220V/50Hz. The European type (German) of power supply connectors is used. Namely, the distance between centers of plugs in a socket is 18 mm, plug diameter is 4 mm. American, UK and Asian plugs will not fit and therefore you may need an adapter with two circular metal pins to connect your devices to electrical mains.

Weather

February is still a winter month in Novosibirsk, but at the end of the month it is usually not as cold as before, with temperatures varying between -5C and -15C in the daytime and between -15C and -25C at night. However, dramatic changes of temperature are sometimes possible and we recommend to have warm clothes incuding solid shoes, a hat, a scarf and gloves.
